▋about the performance ▋ On this tour Kahn will be working with electronics, using a chaotic feedback system that places his body in the circuit flow. Grabbing the open leads of a modular synthesizer with his hands makes and breaks circuits, causing the synthesizer to overload or momentarily collapse. Various contact microphones, electromagnetic inductors and the synthesizer's own output via a mixing board are used to modulate the parameters of the synthesizer. This results in a very dynamic system, often difficult to control, but allowing great expressivity—much like any acoustic instrument, but electronic.
Live radio captures during the concert and field recordings made beforehand in the performance space and its environs provide further working material for each concert. In the end, these performances are essentially site-specific works, improvising with the space at hand, both in the sense of its physicality and the sounds found there. Every performance is different, not only because the music is improvised but also because the source material used pertains directly to each space being played in.

▋about the performers ▋ ● Jason Kahn (US/CH) Born 1960 in New York, Jason Kahn is an artist, musician and writer. He lives in Zürich. Kahn has presented his installations and public-space interventions internationally. These works focus on the idea of space: the conceptual and physical juncture points, its production and dissolution, and our relation to it as a political, social and environmental medium.
As an electronic musician, guitarist, vocalist and percussionist Kahn performs as soloist and collaborates with others in the context of free improvised music. He has also composed numerous electroacoustic pieces and graphical scores. His work can be heard on over two hundred releases. Kahn’s written work has appeared in books, magazines and as liner notes to audio publications. His other activities include sound pieces for radio, film, dance and theater. Various art schools have invited Kahn to give talks and workshops, including the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, École Supérieure d´Art de Mulhouse, Cal Arts and Huddersfield University.
*Jason Kahn is supported by swiss arts council / pro helvetia in this tour.

-- ● Sheryl Cheung Sheryl Cheung experiments with the idea of the body as an instrument that is continually played by affects. Like an open, metabolic body, her sound palette is vulnerable and harsh at the same time. Sheryl works between experimental music, abstract scoring and writing to explore a materialist understanding of power, emotion and moral order.
-- ● Franki Wals (ES) https://frankiwals.bandcamp.com/ Franki Wals is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses sound, video, text, and other means of expression. Some of the main concerns tackled in his work include experience, perception, environment, and the myriad lines that crisscross between them, employing strategies such as focused observation, field recordings, and installations to engage with them. When performing live, he usually combines different improvisation formats and sound exploration techniques.
-- ● Chang Deng-Yao Enjoy making erhu to sound like it is going to be broken. Easy to enter a state similar to that of a ghost on stage. The director/owner of Jiang Shan Yi Gai Suo.
